This course is for Senior Drill and Blast Engineers and Supervisors with responsibility for the management of drill and blast operations.

Completion provides the competencies  RIIBLA602D Establish and Maintain a Blasting System and RIIBLA401D Manage Blasting Operations

This is a course for practicing drill and blast engineers wishing to obtain the qualification RIIBLA601E Design Blasts.

To complete the course trainees need to complete five assignments detailing the design and implementation of a blast from concept through to reconciliation.

Trainees will need access to drill and blast design software and an operating site in order to demonstrate competency.

Course cost is $880

This is a course for shotfirers wanting the RIIBLA402D Monitor and control the effects of blasting on the environment Unit of competency.

This unit is required in certain states in order to maintain an unrestricted license for blasting in and around built up areas.

The pre-requisite for this course is RIIBLA301D Conduct surface shotfiring operations or equivalent.

Successful trainees will receive a Certificate of Completion for the shotfirer unit of competency not a Statement of Attainment

Notes:

  • A Certificate of Completion is not a recognised qualification and will not support an application for a Shotfirers licence.
  • A Statement of Attainment for the shotfirer competencies is required to support an application for a Shotfirer licence.
  • The Certificate can be upgraded to a Statement of Attainment on completion of the required practical experience and assignments.
  • Upgrading a Certificate to a Statement may incur additional costs.

Secondary Blasting Theory Course

This course is for qualified shotfirers who need the unit of competency RIIBLA305D to be added to a current Statement of Attainment

The course cost including manual $650.00

Under regulation persons working under the direct supervision of an authorised person must have knowledge about

  1. The requirements under the Act about storage, transport, manufacture, sale and use of explosives;
  2. The hazards associated with each type of blasting explosive, its blasting characteristics, safe handling procedures and methods of use.

(Queensland Explosives Regulation 2003)

Completion of this course meets these requirements.
